HDD detection ??!!!

hi guys, this is going sound wierd !! i have an ultra 5 worksation running on Solaris 2.6. i just had changes the hard disk of the machine to a 20 GB but when installing Solaris 2.6, the system only detected 8 GB. Overlap = 8Gb !!How come ??? have i been conned by the HDD vendors ?? *looks around* HDD type = MAXTOR . thanks lads !!
