Hey guys,
Need help. Something is wrong with my CPU. Everytime I try to write large files to the HDD, I get a blue screen of death (win2k) Tried reformatting, and reinstalling the OS, at about 30% of install done I start getting messages that files are nor written correctly to the HDD, after 2-3 file errors, I get the blue screen again. Tried putting different HDDs in, doesn't seem to matter, re-wiring doesn't help, tried putting in different CDDs, no effect. I'm leaning towards a BIOS problem...
Help???
Thanks.

I'd lean more towards a disk controller problem.

Has this always happened to this machine, or is this something that has started happening recently?

Is this an IDE or SCSI setup? Does the motherboard come with a floppy with the disk controller software on?

What is the motherboard?

I would recommend leaving flashing the BIOS until you have exhausted all other avenues.

I hope this helps

It might be as simple as meeting the minimum requirements for win2k. 133MHz or >. 64 MB RAM, 2GB HD with minimum of 650MB free space. This is for Win 2000 Professional by the way.
Ofcourse it might be the BIOS but i doubt it but like the man said don't flush that til u have to.

HI, if you dont know what your motherboard is there is a great utility prog which will do this from Belarc Advisor at www.belarc.com. It only takes a couple of minutes to download.
I used it today, its free to personal users
It does not upload any details of your system to the web. So if you need it try it out.
Sorry can't help with the rest of your problem.

Thanks guys!
Yes, this is something that just started happenning. I reformatted the HDDs hoping it would fix the problem but it didn't. Yes, the computer came with SCSI controller software. I tried both set ups, IDE and SCSI with no success. The motherboard... I don't know, but it's something that would support Dual Pentium III set up. That's it. The original config was two 50G HDDs, I tried taking one out, wiring it IDE and SCSI, nothing works. At 30% win2k starts giving messages that some files are written incorrectly to the HDD and then it crashes...
But... why?

I have had a similar problem with windows 2000. None of the symptons pointed to the format of the hard drive but I re-formatted the hard drive as FAT32 several times anyway. I then formatted it as NTFS and windows installed without a problem. It's been up and running successfully since.

I'm no expert on hard drives but this did it for me!

Oops, I just checked the date of this post and realised I'm months too late!

Sorry, I'm new to the forum!
