HD Transfer mode became PIO after booting to Linux?

I have 2 HD, drive 1 contain only Windows XP and drive 2 partitioned for Linux. After I installed RH Linux 7.3 and boot into linux, after I restart and boot into WinXP, my hard drive transfer mode became PIO, which slows down the system by 75%. Does anybody know why this happen and solve the problem?
