I have a Seagate IDE 18G that's an OEM drive came from a Sun Ultra 10 box. I'm now using it with an Intel PC running XP. My PC BIOS sees it as 18G but during the XP installs it only recognized 8G. I have FDISK and format the drive but no change. It works fine but only as an 8G drive in Windows XP. I have tried everything but cannot figure why only 8G. The drive is from Seagate and made for Sun. It's just a regular IDE drive. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hidden unrecognised partition?
Try downloading Seagates own free hard drive utility software (Disk Wizard?) carry out a full diagnostics, this tool can also prepare the drive for use.

There may be jumpers on the drive to "throttle" it down to the limited BIOS on the old Sun computer. Look close at the master/slave jumpers. Do a Google search on the drive model number and see if you can find info on the drive.

I tried everything and it did not work. I then used Partition Magic and that solved the problem. Thanks all for the suggestions.
