The hd of my laptop crashed. I`m trying to get the data back by connecting it as a secondary hd and as an external (USB). Both ways, the pc detects a "usb mass storage" but does not assign a letter to it. So I can`t acess it with explorer.

When I check the hd with recovery-software, it says it`s 2.098.152 MB big (it`s a 20gb one, not a 2098gb), I see 4.294.967.295 cylinders, 1 head, 1 sector. But no matter what I try, I can`t acess the hd.

Any help is very much appreciated

It is very possible that during the crash, this drive is no longer functional.

When connecting as a secondary drive you must check the drive jumpers for proper setting as a slave.

When connected via a USB enclosure it should be jumpered as a master.

You can always look in the computer manager and assign it a drive letter.
