I just formatted a HD and installed Windows ME. If I do a full shutdown and start up the PC the HD is not found. I have to enter again in the BIOS setup. After I do this I can do a restart and the HD is still there. If I shutdown again and power up it's gone. The jumper settings on the drive are fine. There is only one primary drive on this PC. Why does BIOS keep losing the HD setting on a shutdown? Virus? It's a brand new install of the OS. I also loaded NAV but found no virus on the boot record.
Any help is appreciated.

Maybe your CMOS battery needs changing.
If you are losing settings I would say this is almost certainly the case.
