There is a Compaq Deslpro 2000 w/ WinNT 4.0 SP4 and the damn hard drive for some reason just keeps on running without needing to. Any reasons for it that you guys might know about?

How much RAM do you have in the machine? If you have less than 64 MB (I recommend 128MB) you could be seeing a LOT of page file activity depending on the applications you are running. Mixed in with that you could be seeing scheduled virus scans and also MS Office's FastFind likes to scan the entire disk with annoying regularity.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Move findfast out of the startup group. Try office startup too for the time being.
Ensure you have a decent amount of RAM.
Start performance monitor (perfmon) and add counters:
pages/sec
processor time
can't remember which others. You need to profile your system to find out what is thrashing the disk.
