HD Health/Condition Software?

Hey all, theres a lot of software out there for stuff like this... and to be frank a lot of it is for the most part crap.

As to clarify the post... What software would you recommend to determine the condition or health of a hard drive?

Please state what if any special experience is behind your advice (as a lot of you hd recovery techs seem to be on here - love to hear from you!)

HDTach is one of the best free tools for performance analysis. Anything that can read and report on your S.M.A.R.T. data is good, like smartmontools from sourceforge:

Download the Ultimate Boot CD and burn it. It has most of the major drive manufacturer's diagnostic tools. Run the LONG scan if there is an option to do so.

You could use other tools, but why not start with the manufacturer's own tool??
