HI all!

Does anyone know how to get a US robotics modem (56k faxster) to not hang up when encountering the UK's ring tone, which it detects as a busy signal?

Thanks!

Don't have any experience with your modem, but if you go to START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, MODEMS, PROPERTIES, do you have a tab for DISTINTIVE RING PATTERNS?

If so, can they be set for UK pattern and not European, which is very similar to US. We still like bleep bleep rather than bleeeeeeeeeeep.

You may hace to specify your country in the setup for the modem; we have to in the UK all the time.

cmaerten,

Try putting either an X1 or X3 in your modem init string. These settings tell the modem to ignore call progress tones (ringback, busy, no dial tone, etc). If you are using a GUI to configure your modem, you can frequently just choose the "Ignore dialtone" option. It normally inserts an X3 in either the init string or dial string. Works both ways.

I have to warn you in advance though, you will not be able to detect a busy or no dial tone condition for that modem or that connection (depending on where you make the change).
