Having problems transferring calls to an external number 3

Installed a Norstar 5.0 MICS, using regular CO lines (in a line pool)
I have the extensions allowing line pool access, the prefix is 9 for pool A, the primary line is intercom
I have the Allow Redirect set to yes
I have the lines set to supervised
Each phone has at least 2 intercom buttons
On all other systems I worked on, I am able to hit the transfer button, select a line (by either pressing a line button or dialing a line pool code), dial the number (or hit the speed-dial) and hit release and the call is transferred to an external number
All line and set filters are set to use filter "00" durring all modes
Anything I may be missing?

It would seem as though you are trying to use the transfer feature (feature 70) to accomplish your task, but you should be using the conf/transfer to do it. (feature 3 I believe) Allowing redirect ring, is only to get an outside line to be redirected automatically to another number, before it is answered. Also, by using the conf/transfer to forward a call, it ties up 2 lines until the conf call is dropped. You may want to look into changing the lines to centrex, because you can link (feature 71) a call to an external number and free up your lines right away.

That is correct, I am trying to use the Transfer key (as it lights on the screen durring a call) and a pre-programmed speed-dial button to accomplish this in a two-button transfer without centrex
I have accomplished this before on many other Nortel ystems Compact and Modular, even the coppor older systems.

I don`t think you can transfer that way, only by the conf/transfer feature, at least I don`t think so. Are you sure it`s done in other locations using the soft key transfer, or do they use a transfer button with conf/transfer programmed on it?

Soft key, I remember because I did it two day ago and the location was filled with the type of people you have to spell it out for, so I spent about an hour showing everyone how it worked.
I programmed a speed-dial number and had the whole thing going on.
In the Norstar MICS 5.0 it says that a transfer can be to an internal or external destination
I know the soft key can do it; I do not know what is preventing the users of this system from doing it

I agree with schlum. External transfer does not work like that on Norstar. You have to do flash or conference. You can program flash in a speed dial, but you still would not use the transfer button, soft or otherwise. You would just press the speed dial button and if your centrex lines were capable, you could just hang up then.

I agree with Schlum in ref the call transfer (feat 70) will not allow you to dial an outside line access code. Conf/Transfer (feature 3) allows you to make the calls but with a couple of caveat's; at least one of the calls has to be an incoming call and both must be on disconnect supervision lines. The person making the transfer can drop out of the confrence completely using the rls key or just partialy using hold. Like Schlum says also using the link (feat 71) will also work and depending on your LEC you may not have to go to centrex to do this, Some LEC's call a package that can do this "feature link" and others you can just buy the Call transfer option for the lines. The Nortel System coordinators guide clearly states. The facts about the transfer feature, it says about Transfer: “Transfer allows you to direct a call to a telephone in your Norstar system, within the network or external to the network”
And offers directions: “When transferring a call to an external number, the external call you are trying to transfer must be an incoming call on a disconnect supervised line”
Again, I have done this on a MICS with Release 1 T1 software on it, also on the MICS with the 4.1 software in my office!
I don’t mean to be a pain, but I am baffled, and I sold the system with that specific application in mind.
Thanks for all the help folks.

OK I set up my office same way and i can receive a call and transfer it out by dialing either the pool access code or by dialing the destination code, Worked both ways. I am also MICS Release 4.1 though.
What are the exact steps you are taking and seeing on the phone? and at what time does the call drop?

Thank You!
The display simply reads, "transfer denied" and cancel retry on the soft keys.
I made sure that the lines were set to supervised and so on (see above)
I also did it again today on two other systems, and I know that you can have major security issues with this, but I cannot figure out what is different with this 5.0.
I may have to restart the system tomorrow, go through start up again and so on.
I have to believe that this may be a glitch, but I spent half a day working on this on Monday.
Any help would be appreciated.

njphones,
You were right, which is why I like this group...learn something new. It is an obvious feature as stated in the sys cood guide. My thoughts are;
1.What settings are different from the other site.-Do they have IC as prime line also?
2. In your original post you state press a line pool button or enter code. -have you tried both ways, and when you enter the code are you pressing intercom, then pool code, or are you pressing feat64 then pool code?

Let us know how it goes.

Well, I went back to the customer today and guess what-
It worked fine on every line. I have a feeling it has to do with disconnect supervision on the lines and how the system re-evaluates the lines after this function is turned on. The systems often seem to take some time in re-setting the lines, and I guess I either did not wait long enough before I tested the lines, or the lines were not idle long enough for the settings to take and the system did it overnight. That is the best explanation I have.
By the way, my customer is located in NYC, and is the building NEXT TO ground zero. They opened up a satellite office across the river, and they now have the ability to transfer calls between offices over the T1 lines we split off.
This forum (although a bit liberal at times in the way the little stars are handed out) provides a much-needed outlet for technicians to work out these little problems and is an invaluable tool.
I made sure to put a link to tek-tips on our company web site.

I ran into a problem with DS on a mics 5.0 a few months ago. It did not wnat to take the change through line copy, in fact line copy would freeze the system. I had to go in and do set it to DS one line at a time, and then it worked.

Well tie my face to the side of a pig and rooooolllllll me in the mud. It`s funny how you can work on these things for quite a few years and still see something so simple that you never knew about. I feel a bit better knowing that a couple of knowledgeable posters thought the same. Found that info on a feature card as well as the following.

"You may not be able to transfer a call on an external line to an external telephone, depending on the
capabilities of the lines."

Funny, but I can`t find anything in the installer manual that talks about what those capabilities are. Only thing is the trunk mode needing to be super on a conf, but no mention of a transfer. Maybe that was indeed your problem like you said.

Oh well

I believe you have to enable line redirect on each telephone you which to enable this feature on...

I've done off site transfers using line pools with x221 before, by default, as (from what I would guess) they're assuming that is the Attendant console. I have done it using routing codes as well, from other stations- similiar to how you set up off site call fwd- but don't know if I've ever done it just straight transfer.

I have twice for a specific application, but there are security issues. For instance, if our company had a toll-free line, then you could transfer a caller to an outside line. You need to be able to prevent this. There are short cuts, but the deluxe would be a smdr unit.
Another example is setting up remote offices, where an operator can be at a main console and switch the call over the T to a remote office. We configured a secret prompt in the same companies auto attendant to connect to either location.
Finally, if the boss just wants to take a day off, we programmed a speed-dial for his assistant, so it is a two button transfer if the caller either wants to go to voicemail or to the cell phone. It is a better (but more expensive) alternative to voicemail Message Notification.
