I am having problems with a few pc's at a remote site running the new Novell 4.9 client. Apparently after installing the client logining into the network does not work. The PC with the new client keeps asking for a tree and context. When I click on the down arrow for the tree or the context it would just hang for a long while. When I physically type in the tree and context it still would not let me in. It would say the tree or server cannot be found. Choose a different tree or server. Select the workstation only checkbox to login to the local workstation. Would you still like to try to login to Windows (With a yes or no)? I check yes and once in I dont have any novell drives mapped that I use to have with the 4.83 client. I can map a network drive to the novell servers though. I've tried turing off the Nmas setting but nothing is working. Can someone help??? Is anyone experiencing this problem?

By the way we are running W2K sp4 and these are PIII's

Did u do an upgrade from the older Novell version?
When u log into the local macine as an admin can u see the red n on the bottom of the screen?
U may have to reconfigure the scope settings and default service settings by right clicking on the N,advanced. I can remember off hand exactly where these settings are but u'll find it on the novell site.
Let me know how u get on.

Sorry,
One more thing,
When u log on locally are u picking up an IP address and can u ping anything?

Thanks for your response.
I have not tried to login locally. Everytime I tried to login to the domain I would get the "Could not find tree/context" message and would get the option to login to a different domain. Once in I get an IP address via DHCP, I can ping my novell server, can get out to the internet, can map a drive to a microsoft and novell server.

One thing I tried and seemed to work was in the novell properties I put the name of the Novell server and in the login screen I put the name of the novell server and it let me login without problems. I logged out logged back in, rebooted several times and it worked fine. I got all my novell drive mappings. Once I removed the name of the server from the client properties and the login screen I got the tree/context errors again. I thought that the preferred server setting could be left blank now. On our other pc's I know for a fact that the preferred server setting is left blank. I will try going in locally later today because the user is there this morning.

Yes, the preferred server setting can be blank however there is another tab here which contains almost the same information. If u upgraded the cliant though these should have retained their settings.

What tab is it that your are talking about? I agree about the upgrade and that the tree and contex info should be retained. Our domain name was retained. I dont know. Thanks for your help man.

To be honest I cant remember the tab, its another one under advanced settings possibly scope......not sure its been a while since I worked with Novel Client.
