we run throught the state firewall and were running pure/IP on a 5.1 server w/groupwise 5.5. the rest of the network runs 4.1 w/NWIP IPX we have 10 servers like this in 11 offices. me have a new mis tech that work out another office and was not able to see the server so i loaded NWIP5 on it so she could do some work. that is when my GWIA stoped working. I can still get mail just can not send mail. any help would be great.

Any error messages on the GWIA about deferring messages or any other errors? Review your log files and look for any errors, ensure the messages are getting to the Gateway in the first place. (of course I am assuming that you are only running one GWIA on your network). david e

yes i am only running one GWIA

analyzing result file :XXXXXX
detected error on SMTP Command
Command: Hotmail.com
Response: 450 host down

this is the error i get with any e-mailsgoing to the internet

Try doing this, shut down you your GWIA and then restart it. This happens to my New York connection all the time, I bring it back up by shutting it down and then restarting it. Also try to ping an external address and see if you can resolve host names from your GroupWise box. If you can't resolve host names, we'll move in that direction.

would running NWIP stop pure/ip from not working

Honestly I'm not qualified to answer that question....I would think that If you could connect internally ping the server and it responds then IP would be working. Mail does not care what TCP/IP stack it uses it just needs a path to a host, if it can establish the path then I would think it would be able to send. If you can hold on a few I'm sure someone will be along to give you a more indepth answer about PureIP vs NWIP. :) Sorry I can't......

450 host down normally means that your IP Routing Table has a problem Look in TCPCON and INETCFG on your server and make sure the table looks correct.

If you need any more help contact me!

I set up a new server just like i would have set the mail the first time when it worked fine and i am still getting 550 host unknown
when i ping it will send a ping but won't get a ping back
but with other server i will get a ping powerbar, novell, yahoo, a local college
i am lost at what to do now?????

The problem is that the DNS entry for the host is incorrect.

The fix is to use NSLOOKUP to resolve the address of the receiving host. Change the record for the host in DNS this resolves the problem.

If not look uo and look through the TID's I am sure they will be of more help!

:)
Good Luck
