G'day world.

I am wondering if anyone has ever tried to create User editable Reports from an .MDE compiled database? ::)

The custom reports live in a separate .mdb

The current method involves importing them into the front-end to print them, but once you compile the DB, that no longer works.

Note: In a .mde db you can't edit a report or add to the reports collection.

Depends on what you mean by editable. If you are refering to the addition of fields a-la design mode, I don't know any way to do this. If you refer to the addition of controls programatically, I know of no reason this cannnot be done, but have never been there, so I don't know how many problems there are.

If you are refering to a pseudo customization, setting various parameters and using the parameters within the report recordsource to generate different reports, this is relatively simplistic - as long as the overall report layout remains consistient within the group.

It is in fact quite easy (found in the ACCESS ONLINE ENCYCLOPEDIA at
Put your editable reports in a MDB file
Put all the rest in a MDE file
Reference the MDE from the MDB and start your app from the MDB.
-> reports are fully editable (in the limits of your security settings!) and your whole code is protected by the MDE.

I use this technique extensively and it works fine.
