I have a HP laserjet 2100DN installed onto the network. At present whenever someone sends a job to the printer the light will flash and the main button needs to be pressed before the job will print. This has to be done for every single print job.
I have looked in the HP admin on my server and the error message displayed (there is no read out on the printer itself, it does not have one) says that it is due to manual feed.i.e I cannot find any option anywhere where I can turn this off. I have checked all the configuration with another printer, same model but does not have this problem and I can find no differences. Does anyone know what I can do to stop this. I have a feeling it started happening when someone printed labels from it. But all paper defaults are A4.
Help!

I just encountered the very same problem yesterday. I logged in the domain with domain Admini pass. Then go to the printer configuration(from control panel), make the tray1 NOT AVAILABLE, and TRAY2 for A4 paper. It works.

When you mean this i presume you mean lock tray 1?. However I only have one tray anyway.
any other ideas?

In your printer properties, what do you have the paper selection set to? Manual feed or auto select?

There is no option for that, if I go into properties the only option that looks like that is under printing defaults in advanced and if I click on paper, it says autodetect but is greyed out. However on Jet direct when I look at the printer to view the error message, it does say Manual feed error. but I cannot find any option anywhere where I can turn this off.

Your printer has more than likely been set to Manual Feed = On. To remedy this, you should perform a cold reset on it. Power down the printer, then press the Job Cancel (small) button down while turning the power back on. Hold the button until a the LED’s are lit. If you are using a JetDirect card in the printer, you should remove the card prior to doing this, otherwise the card configuration will be erased, too.

Thanks worked a treat!!

thanks for the advice
