I was looking at either going with blocks or patch panels.
All the phone outlets are wired with Cat5E and have Hubbel Cat3 jacks on them. What should I use in the closet with the Analong Panasonic system. I was looking at the following:

I'm looking for the easiest solution since my phone system knowledge is EVEN less than my data cabling knowledge :)

Thanks

depends on how the cables are terminated in the closet

I would use somthing like your second link

I do a bit with this system so feel free to email or post questions here glad to help as much as I can

there is also a panasonic forum here

good luck

Don't have my book with me, but the older 1232 comes out on amphenol 25 pair plugs I think, so your second option would just save you the time of punching down the pigtails. However, you still need to know which port will be on which pair, and you'll of course need to jumper the ports to the station wiring.

How are they terminated in the closet? Is the existing horizontal wiring terminated on 66M type blocks? If it is, then your idea of buying preterminated pigtails should be fine. Just mount the new 66M blocks and run jumpers.

If you find the horizontal wiring terminated on 110's though, I would get preterminated 110 style blocks so that all the jumpers end up terminated on the same style of block.

Good Luck!

if the system is in place and working I would just pull the jumpers off of whatever blocks its terminated to now and move them along with the switch

then its just a matter of cross-connecting the existing to the new

Right now the wires arent terminated in the closet. So my options are still open. Considering they arent terminated yet what should I go for?

SBC just brought in 6 lines and punched on a 66block. I will get you some pictures of the system I'm moving which will help show the mess I'm working with.

I would terminate to a 66 block (or 110 your choice ) and remove the old blocks with pigtails when I moved the system then use cross connect wire to go from your station blocks with all 4 pair punched down on 66 blocks over to the blocks that feed the p[hone system that look like the ones in your second link

jse spme mushrooms or d rings to make it neat and ordrly

I would not punch my station csbles directly down on the blocks with the AMP pigtails.

Skip,

Why wouldnt you just terminate the workstation cables to the blocks with the amp? You probally know better than me, but I'm just curious.

I may need some help with this, I may drop you an email. Do I need any kind of surge protection on the lines?

Generally the station cables, the 'horizontal wiring' should be terminated on permanent connection such as 110 blocks, patchracks, 66 blocks, etc. This becomes part of the permanent building wiring.

So, you install a Key system for the customer and you hang it on the wall, install the blocks for it and you are ready to jumper. Using cross connect wire, you jumper whatever station port you want to whatever wall jack you need to. When the customer re-arranges, you simply go in the telecom room and move a jumper to put the station on the new jack.

When the customer wants to upgrade, it is easy to hang a new key system and rejumper without disturbing the horizontal cabling.

Good Luck!

to add to Daron's response you have 4 pair cable and you are only using two per station if the customer ever decides to add a second station or a modem at the drop end utlizing the unused pairs you are all set in the wiring closet with the spare pairs punched down already

if you punch them down directly to the block with the amp pigtail you will have two spare pair per cable hanging out there ( a real mess)

re reading your last post I would rcommend secondary surge suppressors on the lines its cheap insurance
what I always tell my customers is not only are they protecting the $$$ tied up in the equipment its also the down time if they come in and the equipment is fried by the time they call and we get there and get them going at least tmporarly how much has that 2-3 hours of downtime cost them ?

im in s fl and it used to be that every thunderstorm brought service calls .with good secondary protection we only get a few lightning hits a year now
