Merlin Messaging - working from "System Manager's Quick Reference"
Issue 1, August 1999.

(Must be something more up to date but this is what I have to work with).

Anyway...

I have been asked if it is possible to "have the phone ring" at two different extensions, so it can be answered at either.

I think (I think)this might be possible with the Group Coverage feature - page 80 of the manual referenced above.

First, let me ask if I am on the right track, rather than waste your time by having you read a multipage post. Is this the way to do this? Or is there a better way?

I can follow up if need be.

The phone should ring at both extensions at the same time - no delay - if possible.

Sure it's possible. What kind of phones are you using?

Mike

First phone is a MLX 16.

Second is a Radio Shack portable. Trying to find model no. Probably doesn't matter. dect 6.0?

Idea is that if person is in office, they pick up on the MLX 16 with all the buttons configured as they want, can frward, etc..

If in another part of the building (not too far away) they use the portable (not cell) phone.

From your console phone, go to Centralized Telephone ProgramIng, then to the extension number of the cordless phone. Add a Primary Coverage "button" for the MLX extension to the cordless. They will ring simultaneously.

OK, just getting back to this after break...

So I go to the extension of the cordless phone to program this?

The MLX will remain the primary phone for the user.

I would have thought I program coverage for that phone on that extension?

No?

Example:

The MLX phone is Ext 101
The Cordless phone is Ext. 102

In Centralized Telephone Programming, Program Ext 102 (the Cordless) to have a Primary Coverage button for Ext 101 (the MLX) with Immediate Ring.

When you call Ext. 101, 101 and 102 will ring.

Thank you.

We have yet to purchase the cordless phone, but when we do, I'll give that a shot.

Thanks once again.
