HAVE HP 1300S TAPE DRIVE

I use IRIX 5.2 on a INDY workstation. I had to replace my tape drive with an HP 1300s. I cannot get the SCSI controller to correctly communicate with it. I keep getting UNEXPECTED ERROR messages from the SCSI controller.
