We have a Merlin Magix 1.0 with Merlin Messaging r2.0. Currently our phone system is set up to ring 6 times on the receptionist phone (x100) and then go to the AA. We no longer have a receptionist and would like it to answer on 0 rings. I have looked in both the phone system and the messaging and I can not figure out how it was set up. We are using AA #1 but there are no line assigned to it. 7124, 7125, 7126 and 7127 are assigned to group 770. Three other phone ring in the office when x100 rings but I know that these are set up as primary cover phones. Can someone help?

Could have been done a couple of ways. 7124-7127 are the extension numbers of the voice mail ports, so those are the only ones assigned to group 770.

The "normal" way of providing delayed auto attendant answering is to assign the lines to an empty calling group (other than 770), and have that group overflow to 770. Then you make a mailbox with an extension number that matches that calling group that points to the auto attendant. If you do a "print" of the calling groups, you may find the group that does this, then you remove the lines (or pools, if they are in pools) from that "delayed call handling group", and just reassign them to group 770.

It could also be that your Operator extension's mailbox is pointed to the auto attendant instead of being a regular mailbox that answers and takes messages. In this senario, delete the auto attendant mailbox, remove the extension from the voice mail cover group, and add the lines/pools to group 770.

You could also add Night Service to the Operator extension and send the lines to the auto attendant that way, but that would also put the auto attendant in the night mode unless you also modified the AA's schedule settings.

- OR - Just assign the LINES to the VOICE MAIL calling group and they will be answered immediatly.

Merlinman - Do you first have to remove the lines from whatever they are assigned to before you can assign them to the voice mail calling group, or will assigning them to the voice mail calling group automatically remove them from whatever they are assigned to now?

I was able to make the changes so it now answers in two rings. I do not know if there is a setting to make it answer at zero or not , but I can live with two rings. FYI, I found that it was set up to use group 771. Pool 70 was assigned to 771. I tried to assign pool 70 to 770 but it would not let me. I had to remove pool 70 from group 771 first. Thanx everyone for your help!!!

I'll bet your 771 is setup to overflow to 770. Get rid of that overflow and assign pool 70 to 770

I have already removed pool 70 from group 771 and then assigned it to 770.

2 Rings, instead of 1 could be due to Caller Id Delay, if you have it.

If you are happy with 2 rings, I would leave well enough alone.
