The CD/RW Acer External - CRW 6406 EU - Currently can no be recognised by My computer.

Either can my internal DVD Drive.

I am running a IBM Think Pad Windows 2000.. The CD/RW is connected by USB to my THink Pad.

When I first got this system the CD/RW & DVD worked fine on the Think Pad but today it is not.

I have checked the Device Manager and to the left of the USB CR-R/RW 6X4X6 USB DEVICE is a !

So I un Installed the Device in Device Manager and then rebooted the computer. To try and have windows recognise a new driver. This did not work it come back in Device Manager USB CR-R/RW 6X4X6 USB DEVICE properties This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) the device driver does not work. Same thing happend to my DVD.

I have UnInstalled the USB drivers and reinstalled It and that did not fix the device driver issue either.

I have no answers for this problem.

I also have tried to update the firmware from the acer web page and IBM and this did not work either.

I have also tried to update the driver using the internet with the Device manager Driver update - This did not work.

Your registry might have become corruted. If you have a good backup and you restore it, it might fix the prob. Otherwise purhaps you lost the usb ports. You can only get them back by reinstalling windows.
