I am looking for criticism or recommendation on the Western Digital 160 GB, 7200 RPM, 8 MB Cache Hard Drive. I am considering purchasing one for my Dell Dimension 8200, 1.8 GHz, 256 M ram, 40 GB WD HD. They are on sale this week for $199. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I don't know for sure but I think they are fairly new.
Thanks In Advance
JIM

1st a link:

The article indicates you'll need BIOS support...and you oughta' check into this with the Dell site beforehand...the cursory trip I took to Dell's site says your system supports 120 Mb drives...maybe a BIOS patch/update?
Didn't look further...that's up to you...here's where I left off:

WD....blah....I am 0 for 2 with them....Maxtor now there is a hard drive...Ive gone 4 years continuous with not even a peep from that baby. O Segate aint that bad too....by WD yuck [soapbox]
sleep is good

I'm into 2 WD1000JB's in raid for my system...have used a handful of similar large w/large cache WD drives in systems.
No problems yet.
Older drives, I've lost a Maxtor and a WD Caviar...a Seagate and a really old Conner.
Sure to hear from others...there's folks here who deal with LOTS of drives...but ,no, I should have said, I haven't used the 160!
