Hi, we are thinking of upgrading our older version of ACT to Sage CRM. We have about 13,000 records and growing. We would also install the Link to MAS90 once we upgrade that.

Does anyone have this working in the field yet? If yes,

-how many users
-how many records
-hows the performance

thanks!

Ann

How many users do you have?
What sort of hardware?

Unless you nees the additional customisations in Sage CRM, you might find it economical to go with ACT! 10, which can also link to MAS?

Just thought I'd toss that in as another option to consider

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply.

We have 6 users on ACT 6.0 and we need more licenses.

Keeping ACT and upgrading it is an option. There are some features in SageCRM that we like but I can't find anyone to talk to who is using it currently.

We host our ACT! database on our Windows 2003 server that's 3GHz and 2Meg of RAM. Our work stations are a few years old and everything but ACT runs fine on them now. The are mostly Pentium 4 with 1 Gig of RAM.

What can you tell me about ACT! 10 with 13,000+ records and middle aged hardware? How does it perform?

Thanks,

Ann

How many ACT! 6.0 licenses do you need? We actually have some in sock :)

My recomendations for ACT! 10 for that sized database would be to have at least 1GB RAM on the workstations and a fast hard drive in the server.

What would the specs be on a Fast hard drive?

How much difference would a faster network make, too? We are still all 10/100.

Best,

Ann

Hard drive - 7200 rpm would be the minimum

As far as the network, it can be significant ... are you usng a switch or hub?

We have a 3Com switch and a small hub because the switch is full. I'll make sure all the ACT users are off the hub.

I'm pretty sure all our drives are at least 7200 rpm. For instance my PC is 2.7 GHz, 2 Gig Ram and a 7200 SATA II drive and ACT isn't happy.

We have 1 user who telecommutes and connects to the server via Terminal services. She's the only one happy with the performance.

One of the problems with hub is that if any one of the systems connected is at 10Mbit, ALL of the connected devices can only be at 10Mbit... so, you might not be running at 100 Mbit at all.

We took a closer look at our network and decided we should put in a better switch.

So we installed a 10/100/1G unmanaged switch. The good news is that ACT! was much faster in the office, as where all our other server based programs. The bad news is that it must have been defective as it caused ACT! to keep closing with an error for our remote (terminal services) user, her IP hardphone to start rebooting and we couldn't get to the internet intermittently from the office.

Will try again with a replacement switch next week and I'll post back. It's so exciting to see ACT! fast!
