I have a customer who has 3 9608 phones at a remote site over a hardware vpn using two Adtran routers. Everything is working fine and now he says his IT guy wants to "make changes" to the vpn (naturally since its working fine now lets mess with it). I am not a vpn expert hence the reason the IT guy set it up, the IT guy wants to konw what ports the phones need to work so I assume he is going to be blocking ports over the connection which I dont completly understand why. I have found post that state what must be open for remote extension to work, but I am not sure if this is what would be needed to be open if he starts locking down ports. I also have a valcom vip-201 that is a sip extension that need to work also, I think it need 5060 and 20000, just not sure about the phones.

Thanks guys

You need ports 1719,1720 and the RTP ports comfigured on the viop tab of the lan port of the IPO.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Sorry about the long delay in response, I found a spot in the book that refereced the same ports, and thank you for confirming them.

On a side note this site now has what I would call clipping or reverb sound on digital to IP calls across the vpn. I never had a single voice quality issue before. I am not sure it the IT guy changed anything or not yet. I dont see packet loss when I watch the calls in system status, but I can hear it. I makes me think its in the VCM side of things but thats just a guess. When I talk louder or raise my voice I hear it more.

I saved the trace on another computer and am going to look at the round trip delay also, any of you guys ever have this clipping sound issue. Also does anyone know how the IPO uses vcm channels is it round robin or just first available and I could be getting the same one each time?
