I'm wondering what's the best disk type to use for D2D backups? We have the ability to use either 10 or 15K Fiber channel, or 7.2K SATA.

I've done some googling but I'm not finding anything really difinitive as to which is the 'best' to use?

We will be using BackupExec 12.x to backup a variety of systems (Linux, Windows, vSphere, etc).

thanks for any input you can provide!

Depends what your criteria is:

15K fibre channel will be faster but a lot more expensive (and it seems a bit of a waste to use these as backup drives).
7.2K SATA would be the best compromise for speed and economy (especially if you spread the I/O across a large array of them - dependent upon the backup capacity needed).

Agree with Lee...go with the 7200 SATA if it's just basic d2d backup
