Hardware Requirements for QSIG PRI

I'm trying to figure out the hardware requirements for QSIG PRI on an 81C and an 11C. I'm reading through the ISDN PRI Features and Administration guide and the ISDN PRI Installation guide, and I'm faced with a bewildering array of cards, modules, and daughter boards. (Remember, I'm not the resident PBX expert.)

It appears that we need an MSDL card, or at least some other type of card with a DDCH daughterboard. I don't even know if that's accurate. I'm pretty lost in Nortel land.

It also appears that the hardware requirements differ between an 11C and an 81C.

Can any of you confirm in simple terms what is actually required to get an ISDN PRI with QSIG up and running on these systems. I know that our main PBX person will beat me up for even asking about this here, but I'm just trying to learn as much as I can before we have a meeting to discuss our options. I hate being uneducated about this stuff.

We already have a project approved to move ahead with a VoIP project that requires QSIG, but I just found out today that we don't have all the necessary hardware in the PBXs. Many of our locations have pretty old hardware, like DCHI cards, that won't handle PRI and/or QSIG. We need to figure out exactly what is required so we can make sure we get the right stuff as soon as possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
John

I forgot...this is Succession 3.0 and above.

Thanks,

John,
First of all Options 81C and 11C house different hardward i.e. cards.

81C offering requires PRI/DDP cards (Dual) and a 'D'Channel function for the QSIG which can either be separated or on-board 'D'Channel.

The separated option is provided by an MSDL card 4 ports with PRI - MSDL cable or the onboard daughterboard 2 ports for that particular PRI DDP card.

You will also need to set addressing on DIP switches which unfortunately confuses many people especially on big switches.

11C offering requires appropriate PRI's and Daughterboards
in the Main Cab

Along with programming of the PRI configuration for Loop/Slot positions, Dchannels, members within plus clocking and timers

Hope this gives you some help for your plan!!

Cheers!!

Also make sure that your software allows for Qsig. Most of the later versions do I think but it never hurts to make sure.

We do have the software necessary to run QSIG, and I think we're okay on the 81C as far as hardware. I'll find out later today when I talk to our resident PBX expert about this some more.

I don't understand all the different types of cards and daughterboards that could go into these PBXs. As I understand it, we currently have a mix of NTAK93 cards with DCHI daughterboards in some PBXs, while others have TMDI cards with NTBK51 MSDL daughterboards. It's my understanding that we would need to replace the DCHI cards with TMDI cards with MDSL daughterboards in order to get QSIG PRIs.

Is that even reasonably close to being accurate?

We have a meeting about this later on today. As I said, I'm just trying to educate myself a bit so I can speak intelligently about it.

Thanks!
John
