Hello All,

I'm currently beginning the process of reading and experimenting with SMS in a test lab at work. I've never worked with it until now, and so far I only have the SMS server software installed and running. My supervisor wants SMS deployed ASAP so that we can use the SUS functionality (LONG STORY) and remotely update approximatey 1200 PCs here on campus. Being the only one in my department with any experience with SMS -using the word "experience" loosely, I'm looking for some advice on what kind of a server I should recommend purchasing.

Again we have approximately 1200 PCs that we're going to need to remotely install applications and patches on. I've been looking into a dual 2.0 GHZ server with 2 Gigs of memory and around 50 Gigs of storage. Is this enough? Too much? Please tell me what you think!

Thanks,

Jay

My $0.02:

Get as much hd space as you can. When your boss wants you to start deploying packages and then software installs, that 50 gig will get small quickly.

You also need to plan space for your sql database and logs.
