Hello,

I am looking at adding an ISA server to our network and am wondering what the impact of this server will be on the connection speed to the Internet. We are looking at adding the ISA server to our network because we need to setup an Exchange server and do not want it to be in our DMZ. I don't think that we'll use the caching options in ISA.

What are some recommended specs for an ISA server system? I'm curious to hear the recommendations in terms of the number of CPU's and their class and speed, amount of RAM, etc...

Since this server will stand between the Internet and all of the internal clients (about 25), I am concerned that it will have an adverse effect on the connection speed to the Internet for the clients.

Any advice would be great... Thanks!

I have an old Compaq Priliant
Dual Pent II 333
1 GB RAM
80 GB of HDD space
-30 GB for system partition
-50 GB for caching
I have 2 T1's trunked together for internet connection
I have 1600 workstations, all going through this one server,
and I never have any speed issues.

zcolton,

Thanks for the info! I'm amazed that so many clients are able to go through a server such as this without speed issues. I'll definitely feel comfortable with our small setup.

One question, though, and that is how you trunked the separate T1 connections together. Is this through the ISA server itself? Would it be correct to understand that you have 2 WAN cards on your ISA server?

Thanks again for the info...

One of the nic's in my isa server goes to a router that has two csu/dsu interface cards. the grouping of the two lines is done on the router. The 2 T1's are configured exactly the same way on the other end at my ISP.
