What is the best way of building a stable VPN link to access the LAN behind? Is it better to run it by a Windows 2000 VPN server or buy a VPN Gateway hardware that will do the same job.. or more..!

Someone have something to say about the INTEL VPN gateway??

Thanks.

For stability and performance, hardware. For price? Windows 2000. We user a Windows 2000 server for this and have had no issues other than user ISP issues.

Read MS tech note about the RRAS wizard when setting up VPN. You must choose manual configuration, the wizard has a bug. It is easy to configure and because this is all the PC does it requires no maintenance. Stop all your unnessasary services. Ours is a PII 400Mhz with 2 3c905 cards, but you could use 10mpbs cards without a problem.

Right. My problem is that the same server is a web, ftp and VPN server...

I have another question: If I built it with a windows 2000 Vpn server, the clients are blocked from accessing others computers on the LAN. Perhaps, If a gateway is intalled between the LAn and the internet router, the clients will have access to all the PCs on the LAn ?

This is just a configuration issue. what would the point of VPN be if you were blocked from all the computers on the LAN? There is a checkbox for that and i think it is off by default.
