Hardware for performance

We are experiencing poor performance from Postfix when sending out our corporate email newsletter. We have 450,000 emails that take approximately 9 hours send.

Postfix is running on a Sun Netra T1 105 440 MHz with 512 MB RAM, sitting on a T1 with burstable bandwidth to T3 level.

Any suggestions?

Just so I can get an accurate picture of what kind of bandwidth you're using, how many bytes per message? ______________________________________________________________________

Our average newsletter runs around 12K.

Have you verified that the bursting is working?

Unless you have some evidence that your server is maxed out and is bottlenecking, I calculate that you're getting on the order of T1 throughput. ______________________________________________________________________

Yes the bursting is working. We have a Web Server at the same location and routinely pay bursting charges.

What is happening is that the email package sends X number of newsletters to postfix per hour, however, Postfix gets behind very quickly.

Let's say we serve 50K to postfix in the first hour. It may take 2 - 3 hours the Postfix queue to clear.

900.000 outbound emails in 12 hours.
Behind T3 connection, with a Pentium 3 800 512RAM RAID2.

there are "very" little things affect the performance. When we swithced the machine over to ReiserFS, the increase was just about 9%.
