I'd like to canvass your opinion and experience regarding what server hardware has been used to run ETL products. I'm particularly interested in hub and spoke tools here (e.g. Informatica PowerCenter, Ascential DataStage, etc.) rather than code-generators (e.g. ETI Extract), or set-ups where the target RDBMS is on the same server as the ETL engine.

What operating system do you use, or have you tried (Windows / Unix) ?
How many processors has your server (and what clock-speed) ?
How much memory (RAM) has it ?
Does your set-up make heavy use of disk on the ETL server ?
Which vendor (e.g. Sun, IBM, Dell, etc.) ?
And of course which ETL product do you use, and how does it perform ?

I know, I don't want a lot, but if you don't ask ... ;-)
