Hardware Firewalls

I am thinking of installing a hardware firewall for a workstation. Has anyone experience of these? Can you recommend any?
What is the real advantage using these over running a software firewall such as Norton Internet Security (NIS)?
Can one run both NIS and a hardware firwall - does the latter really make the former redundant?
