I am in the process of purchasing some hardware from HP to create a new W2003 network. The O/S version I am considering is the SBS version of W2003 Server. My understanding is that this version includes some additional features like MS Exchange Server 2003 but is limited to running on (1) server and cannot be distributed to other machines if the configuration becomes inadequate for our needs. Therefore, I am looking for some real world configurations to compare myself against. What hardware (processor, disk and memory) will I need to run this adequately?

I will have 50 users who log into this server.
I run MAS90 (Not client server) 10 users
I have one other application, VESTA that will be client server but is not as of yet.
I have a Novell server which most of our users log into but will be gone by December.

Any suggestions or input is appreciated. I've heard so many things about W2003 and Exchange server that I'm a bit concerned about the hardware. I have access to alot of USED HP/COMPAQ hardware in a rack configuration but the processors are HP DL380 G1 and G2 configurations that I think I can use if they're adequate but I'd prefer to buy the newer HP DL-380 and use all the existing disk arrays and tape drive and libraries if possible.

Thanks in advance.

The hardware specs for 50 users are really not that high, just put as much memory in as you can fit or afford, with a strict minimum of 512, but better at least 1GB, and that server will run very happy!

50 users, depends on traffic but you should easily run with dual PIII 500. As Marc says, 1GB will be really good.

Nice fast array and separate everything like OS, logs and stores.
