We make a plan to upgrade our MIMS 4.1 to the latest version of Ellipse (webview). We want to know what hardware configuration that should be used for that purpose (how many servers and its role). Can we install the Ellipse application and its database in separated server ? What's the pros & cons ?

Hardware configuration is really site dependent, and should be done as part of the upgrade planning with Mincom resources familiar with your database size, concurrent users, etc.

You can have the database and the app server running on different machines, but I don't see much benefit in it unless you already are doing this with other applications and want to centralize all your databases in once place. It is much more common to see one machine running production, and another running development and test.

Whatever you do, I recommend running Webview on a separate machine from the Ellipse server.

Best bet is to have your Mincom account rep arrange some time with a technical consultant that can discuss this in more detail after reviewing your site information.

Hi Atg200..
Yes, we've discussed it with our mincom account rep. I just want to know others Mincom clients' experience.

What's your Ellipse webview version ? Is it already have all function/programs like in Ellipse winview ? Our Mincom guy can't guarantee for it.. [wink]

Thanks for your reply...

The functionality is not the same. The Web verison does not contain the Drag and drop cabability of the GUI (Winview - I think Mincom calls it).
The GUI generally is for the more "power" users.

Moekti:

We deployed both WinView and WebView during our Ellipse 5.2.3.4 upgrade. I find WebView much more user friendly and it has all of the MSQ functionality that WebView does not have. In WebView you cannot open multiple screens as you can in WinView. The WebView screens do not fit the window correctly and you must do a lot of scrolling around. My opinion, WebView is nice for a manager who just pops in and approves things occasionally, but I wouldn't suggest that anyone who spends a lot of time in Ellipse use it!
