Hardware and OS Maintains plans

Our maintains plan is about to run out on our RS6000 and I was interested to know what everyone else has of plans. Do I need to have the AIX as part of the maintains plan when all the are telling us is email alerts about problems what is the right amount of money for this kind of maintains so that we do not over pay. Any help would be great...

we normally have paid 10% of induction hardware price
but OS maintain price is different everywhere service delivery company. typically we make a bid to several company.
