We have been commissioned to produce a director project for one of our clients.

Their minimum harware spec. is 266Mhz with 32 MB RAM. Their screen size is 1024 x 768

my question is - is this really enough to present a Director programme smoothly? Should we minimize the amount and complexity of the animations we use in order to allow it to work properly. We had considered including some 3D animations - is this unwise given the hardware?

Thanks in advance for any help.

you will have to test often on the target hardware but you shouldn't have too much problem, aviod semi transparent effects when possible and try not to have too many sprites on screen. I would start basic and keep adding details till it started to slow down.

3D animations using real time 3d or quicktimes (or similar)? real time 3d is probably not a good idea, but you could do simple stuff, quicktimes could be done, maybe with an xtra if you want them full screen.

You may get away with some simpler 3d stuff if you can require hardware acceleration (a graphics card). If you cannot assume this then the 3D software renderer will definitely slow things down too much.
