I have a external cdrom case and i wanna know if it is possible to use a hardrive in there. I have tried it but it does not seem to recognise the hard drive. is there software or something i am supposed to use.

And the interface type? And what is set up in hardware?
Should run without problems if you set things up correctly.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

IDE is IDE (case). What type of connection is the case - USB 1.1 - USB 2.0 - Firewire? Is the port on the computer good? External drive must be set as "master". Is external drive partitioned/formated? If so, what OS is the computer and external drive (Fat32 or NTFS)? Post back with details.

Its USB 2.0. Yes the port is good. No its not partitioned Has Windows XP, NTFS

Can you set the hard drive (temporary) into the computer to see if the drive is OK (and partition/format it? That way, you are fighting one thing at a time.

What doesn't work? Do you have the master/slave jumpers correct? The drive must be set as master for external use, but can be set as slave when plugged directly into the computer.

I set everything and it still doesnot detect the drive.
Thanx for the help once again. I'll jus leave it
