Whats up,

I am going to take the Linux+ test this month. Im using the Sybex book for my study guide. One of my concerns is that this book was printed in 2001. Does anyone know what this book is missing, or what has changed on the test to make this book outdated? I've also read the posts on amazon as they are somewhat helpful. I used Sybex for both Network+ and CCNA and passed easy on both, but I don’t think this book goes into detail as much as will be required for the test Linux+. Where are the good web sites to get more materials? I have seen lots of websites on A+ and Network+, but little on Linux+.

Also does anyone recommend the Linux+ bible for an alternate study guide? I’ve heard this test has a lot of hardware questions so would the linux+ bible cover this, or would an A+ book be better.

There are not a lot of Linux+ books available that cover the whole ball of wax. Your best bet with Linux+ is to get experience with the OS. Do several installs to get a feel. Grab the exam objectives from CompTIA and just go down the list.

Go to and buy a discount voucher bundled with Tcat's Linux+ Study Guide. It is very good for letting you know what is on the exam and what to study (I wrote it).

The Linux+ exam is about 25% hardware. You can use A+ material to cover these.

Good articles about the Linux+ exam:

You can use LPI materials to study for Linux+ also! Go to Cramsession and grab the PLI study guid. Go to Examnotes.net and get their Linux+ study guide.

I cannot stress enough the need to EXPERIENCE with Linux.
Use the CLI. Use the most common commands.

Good Luck! HTH
