I've noticed hard-deletes in outlook are not synced to my wireless users (I understand that the BES server will "see" the e-mails move to Deleted Itmes and use that as an indicator to purge from the handheld)

Is there any known workaround to this to this behaviour, or do I need to just tell my users that this is the way it works and get use to it.

Yes, this is how it is.

The BB sees which folder the email is in. It won't remove an email not here because it could have been retrieved via it's POP3 connections.

Thats what I figured. Do you know if the hard-delete function can be disabled in Outlook via GPO?

This is configurable on the BES....

On current versions of BES for Exchange (4.1.x and newer), click on Edit Properties under the Server Configuration tab.

Under Messaging, change the value of "Hard Deletes Reconciliation" to True.
