Hard power cycle firewall

We have one of the Axent Raptor Linux-based rackmount firewall. It likes to quit working almost once a week and requires a restart through the MMC.

Someone asked if we could just flip the switch off then on. I think this is a no-no, but need to hear someone else say it. Could someone let me know, thanks.

after being on hold for a while (I love waiting for something after paying $k's) I found out it can be done but takes longer due to the filesystem check and isn't entirely reccomended (like I thought)
