HARD DRIVE

Is this a replacement or an additional drive?
When you say 'will not see' - where are you looking from? And at what. If its additional drive, you will need to use fdisk to partition it before windows 98 (if that's your operating system) will be able to see it (and that's assuming the bios is set to detect second drives).
If its a replacement drive - same thing - you need to boot from a win98 boot floppy and fdisk/format it.
You may need to get into the bios to change settings - which I know can be difficult with some Compaqs (press F10 when flashing square in top RH corner of screen is way in for some).
