I have a Quantum 6.5 gig Bigfoot drive with alot of information on it that needs to be retrieved. The error that I am faced with is that when I attempt to access the drive is:

E:\ is not accessible.
the wrong diskette is in the drive.
Insert (volume serial number:) into drive E:
The drive was moved from a previous machine to this machine as the second HD in a computer upgrade. When this was done, last week, the drive worked. Today upon trying to access it does not. I attempted to move the drive back to its original computer, but I get the blue death screen during startup. When trying to reinstall win 2000, the setup sees the drive as damaged.

Is there any hope in recovering the information?

What error message is in the blue screen? (word for word if you can)
Are you booting it with a floppy, by chance and get the E: not accesible message?
Is it possible that this floppy loads a dynamic or ram drive and downloads diagnostics applications to it?
Such a floppy also moves the drive designations down a letter...
So, are you trying to access the correct drive?

the blue screen error is:

Inaccessable_boot_device

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps.

Check for virus's on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive comtrollers. Check your Harddrive to be sure that it is properly configured and terminated. Run chkdsk /F to check for harddrive corruption, and then restart the computer.

chkdsk /F does nothing
however chkdsk /P & chkdsk /R indicate that the volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems.

when you attempt:
c:\dir
an error occured during directory enumeration.

anything else I should try?
