Having recently reformatted a hard drive and installed all programs, brought up Quicken 2001 to reload two floppy backup disks. Both installed satisfactorily and after going to an account registry which reflected the most recent entry, clicking on the date to make a new entry found things locked up, and then I noticed that the hard drive was flashing. Could only stop it be turning off the PC and on reboot Windows XP would not open. Thereafter, I rebooted with a Startup disk and went from a: to c: and found that the root directory appeared to correspond with my recollection of my previous XP root directory. I also found that, using DOS, I could copy my files to a fixed backup drive and then paste them to another removable hard drive with corresponding folders and files. So my files seem to be intact but XP will not come up. QUESTION: Is there anything I can do to activate my XP Home Upgrade?

Thanks Wolluf, but I'm running Windows XP Home Upgrade and I'm afraid the Reinstallation operation is not available.

Are you sure - I thought it was a feature of all XPs. How have you tried it - what happened?

I have tried it and nothing happens . . . which is consistent, it seems to me, with the fact that XP Home Upgrade has to be installed from within Windows. The absence of this feature in the Upgrade version is almost justification for buying the full version in the first place.

I thought all versions of XP cds were bootable. Do you have your bios set to have the cd rom boot first?
