In an older computer of ours, the hard drive stopped working one day. It cannot detect the primary master drive when it boots up.
So... I did some testing. The hard drive works if I put it in another computer (with the same cable or a different cable).
However, what is really odd, is that if I put another hard drive in the computer that doesn't work, then the other hard drive works (with the same cable and a different cable).
So..., I'm not really sure what the problem is. The hard drive is still working. The cables are still ok, and the motherboard is still able to detect other hard drives.
Some information:
Both hard drives are IDE.
I tried things with both an ATA 33 and ATA 66 cable.
The hard drive that is having problems I believe is ATA 66, however, I think the one that works is an ATA 33 hard drive, but I could be wrong.
I've tried plugging in the drive to both the primary and secondary slot on the motherboard to no avail.
I normally, boot with a boot floppy, and then try to access the drive from the command prompt.
