I own a HP Pavilion PC, Model # 6545C. When I power off the PC by using Shutdown, the hard drive will power back up by itself sometime within a hour or so. Only the hard drive powers on, the rest of the PC stays off. The power on Light stays off, however the Hard drive light is on and I can hear the hard drive running. Of course if I shut off teh power strip then the hard drive stays off.
What causes this problem? This never happened until I stored the PC for 8 months, and when I set it up and started using it again, this problem is happening.
Thanks in advance for any help you may give me.

John

Look at the power mgmt settings in BIOS....
Wake on Modem Ring
Wake on LAN
PME (PCI event wake)

It sounds like you have file and print sharing enabled and someone is accessing the hard drive un-be-knowns to ya
Maybe?

Go get SpyBot

Have Anti-Virus running?
What OS?
Have DSL/Cable modem always on?

I doubt it , but possibly you have a "Scheduled Task" setup
Look in My Computer(if 9x/ME)> Scheduled Tasks folder

Hey Guys,
Sorry about the lack of info. I am running Win 98, with Norton Virus protection updated every week. I have a dial modem connection. I did have a couple of things in the Schedule tasks manager, and deleted them. I will see if that was it.
I never had this problem before I stored this PC. However, I may have added these Tasks , however I do not remember doing that!!
Thanks for the advice and I will let you know here if the Deletion of Tasks helped.
Thanks to TekTippy4U.
