At times my hard drive spins out of control for no apparent reason. It basically sounds like a prop plain before take off. I can work without interuption while it is spinning and all appears normal after. Can someone please explain why this is happening? I suspect it's on it's way out.

Thanks in advance.

It is. The noise you are hearing is from the spindle bearing. It can sound like a 747 prior to take off! Backup your data & get a new drive ASAP!!!!
