Hard drive shuts down

I can hear my hard drive at times and it souds like it is shuting down the trying to startup again the shuting down then starting up again...this may happen may times untill my puter no longer responds. I have to cold boot. Othere times it seems to run fine. All of my connections seem to be good.<br>
Any Ideas?<br>

Got any more info, like what kinda HDD, what OS is running, and about when its doing it, when it started doing this, and whats are you doing most of the time when it does this?<br>
