This may be a stupid question, but I just can't get anywhere with Google so Im going to ask it anyways!

We have a hp proliant ml350 with 2 72Gb 2.5 inch SAS drives (hot plug). I need to maximise capacity in a big way on this machine, and fill out the remaining 6 hot plugs slots so that the machine is at least 1.5 - 2TB.

Therein lies the problem, with SFF the largest disk I can get is 146 Gb, so no chance of even 1TB. The question is this:

Is it possible to remove the SFF cage, insert a LFF cage (which would enable me to put in larger drives), and then get some form of converter to allow me to use my SFF drives also? A lot of work has gone on and I would hate to lose the drives. Any ideas??

You are well past my experience level with the drive types and sizes, but my suspicion is that the smaller drives would mount in a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter. Do a google search for "hard drive adapter" and see if one of those would take care of the mounting.

Thats good info guys, Ill take a look at both ideas and pass on a recommendation to the bossman.

Thanks for your help
