I have a AMD duron 950 with 128 meg of DDR RAM. I recently brought another 128 meg of DDR RAM and a BenQ CD burner, After I installed these components, my computer works fine. However, when I decided to partition the drive to install a 2nd OS (linux), linux cannot partition it. So I decided to format the drive and install linux first, but linux couldn't format the drive. When I try to install Windows 2000 again, it can't format it either. However, the Bios is able to detect the drive. Since the drive is under warranty, I went to exchange it for a new one. I used win 2000 to partition, format and install win2000. it worked ok for the first half of the installation then problem reading files from my CD rom started to occured and once I reboot the computer, the drive acted like before. Windows again gave me an error message regarding my drive. I was wondering if there is anyway a piece of RAM can damage a hard drive. Is it my motherboard that is damage or what? I am out of answers. I have a 350 Watt power supply, I also wonder if power could be a cause. Any help will be so much appreciated! Thanks.

Pull out the new 128 Mg stick and see what happeans. I dont think RAM can damage the HDD but it cnan make the HDD apear like it is going bad. Had it happeaned to me. MAy be causing your problem. Try it and See.

My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my knowledge.
