I started one of Win98 computers on the Network this morning and got an error no operating system found. I thought the HD was faulty but IDE search in the BIOS found it. I ran fdisk and found partition was misssing. I created a new partition and when I started format I noticed that an error on about 8000KB, after it corrected that it carried on formating.

I decided at that stage to install another hard disk. The original hard disk that came out that particular computer was only about 10 months old, 20GB Maxtor.

I thought it may have been a virus but virus software is current.

Any ideas

Thanks

Tony

Did you run scandisk after formatting it? Sounds like you may have some bad sectors.
