The c:\ drive on the server I have Oracle installed on is filling up.
The culprit seems to be the archive files in the rdbms folder ARC00043.001 etc. - these files are huge, and date back to 2007 when this database was created.
I assume a step during setup was missed that automatically deletes old archive files?
Can I simply delete some of the older ones?
Is there a process I can turn on that automates this?
Thanks,
Amber

Oracle does not automatically delete old archive-log files. Removing archive-log files is an O/S-administration duty that you or your o/s administrator does. Generally, Oracle or O/S administrators spool off (or delete) obsolete archive-log files using an O/S cron job (either on *nix or Windoze systems).

Read up on Oracle's RMAN (Recovery MANager) functionality. It should give you options that automate the process for you.

Have you ever backed up the database since creation date?
I mean that you may need all that archive logs in case your last full backup is too old.
