I have a 300gb hard disk that is only a year old but now all of a sudden, is not recognized by my computers bios. I have tried different IDE cables and power cables as well as jumper settings. The drive isnt making any clicking noises that are common with fried disks. My pc tries to find it but doesnt.I have even tried different pc's. HELP!!

Any funny smells? Can you hear the disk spinning? Usually not being detected by BIOS is a sign that the drive is dead, and needs to go to professional data recovery experts. Do NOT open the case yourself!

But...it couldn't hurt to try a new PCB (circuit board) from another drive, but it has to be the EXACT make & model # and hopefully close in serial #. This has worked for members here before. Sorry.

You could try your drive on a different ide controler and see if it is detected

I have actually tried a few different pc's. Is there any hardware fixers out there, kinda like the power supply testers that cost $20? I hate to throw out a 300gb drive. Its no so much the data on it becuase there isnt much!
Thanks everyone!!

Have you looked on the manufacturer's website to check on warranty? It may still be, since it is about a year old.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

If your drive is still under warranty, as Ed Fair mentioned, you should be able to get it replaced by simply getting an RMA, sending yours back and waiting on the new one. That works quite well, actually, from my experience. [smile]
